How Your Retail Business can benefit from an EPoS system

Having an EPoS system no matter what type of business you might have is sure to help your overall sales and profit to benefit in many ways. Technology has long been evolving in the retail sector and having an electronic point of sale system is a good way to cut down on man power as well as saving valuable time to concentrate on more important business developments.

Having a clear concise method of driving sales using core values should be the first port of call for any business manager. So looking into how technology can benefit your chain of retail stores, or indeed singular retail store could turn out to be a lot more advantageous than you ever imagined.

So what function does an EPoS system have you might ask? This is basically an innovative piece of retail equipment used to keep a record of important data such as; stock checks, customer behaviour and supplier information. If you’re interested in finding out where you can buy useful retailing equipment, take a look at Nisyst who offer many different types of bespoke business equipment that is sure to save you time and money in the long run.

Looking into the benefits of business managers who may be considering investing some of their budget on an EPoS system, the following points will hopefully illustrate how useful this piece of equipment can be…

  • Stock checks. Using technology to carry out your weekly stock checks will quicken up this task which many of your staff may find particularly mundane. It’s only human nature that our eyes get tired over a long period of time, especially when completing fairly routine tasks like counting items of retail stock.
  • Save money on hiring staff. An EPoS system does things a lot quicker and this will help you to cut down on the amount of staff you need to hire to help keep your business functioning to the highest standard.
  • Monitor profits. As an EPoS system can store lots of information on different databases this can be useful for helping you as a business manager to keep on top of things like which items are selling the most and how many more you need to order from suppliers.

Efficiency, planning and organisation are all key factors which contribute to the success of any retail store which is why so many business managers are now choosing to use electronic devices like the EPoS. Here is a useful article which details other important qualities a business owner needs to adopt in order to keep their business on the right track.

Could Educational Software Replace Teachers?

Every year more and more of our world becomes digital. You no longer have to leave your house to go shopping or to socialise with your friends. The point could be coming where you no longer need to take children to school, but instead you pop them in front of a computer and let educational software teach them. There is already a vast amount of software available to help your child learn arithmetic and reading, as well as knowledge about how the world works. One website called IXL has sections like comparing, size and money for children of reception age and even has relevant pages for secondary school children in year 1o.

In Eagle County, Colorado, the school district decided to begin replacing foreign language teachers with educational software. The news was met with serious backlash especially from teachers who are obviously becoming more aware that they could be replaced by computers, especially as buying a computer and some software costs a lot less then paying a teachers wage.

If you are a teacher there might not need to be any need to worry yet, as there is a lot left to be desired from Educational Software, it is missing that human level of interaction. An educational piece of software can give you an assignment to do but it cannot motivate you to do it. Recorded lessons may deliver all the facts, but a recording cannot gage the classes reaction to change the tone or answer a students questions or queries.

Educational software at the moment is still only a teaching tool, not a teacher. If teachers begin to be replaced by current software, students are likely to suffer. If there is anyone hoping that educational software becomes more proficient it will not teahcers. Any advances that could be made might be funded by educational bodies or Governments who hope they can save money on their yearly budgets by replacing a teacher with a teacher-tron.

What To Look For When Hiring An IT Support Specialist

When it comes to hiring an IT support specialist to enable your business’ IT systems to run efficiently at all times, there’s a few things you need to consider. IT support comes in different forms, from in-house specialist engineers to remote support teams and its absolutely vital that you assess yours and your companies needs prior to employing a team or support engineer. We thought we’d take a look at the different options in terms of support engineers and try and make the job of deciding what’s best for you that little bit easier.

In-House Support

Whether you employ a whole team of IT support specialists or a single engineer, in-house IT support is perfect for larger businesses who run large and complex computer networks and telecoms infrastructures. When you need support on a daily basis, from simple email issues to more complex network problems, an in-house engineer or team makes perfect sense…you’ll be sure there’s always someone on hand to help when you need it and you’ll know that any problems which arise can be dealt with quickly and efficiently.

Local Support

For medium sized companies who need IT support fairly regularly but not on a daily basis, employing the services of a local support team may be the best option. You’re likely to find a local support team who serve a number of businesses and can offer either a set time per week at your premises or be available on call when you require assistance. For semi-regular support, it’s most likely that such a service makes most sense both financially and from the point of view of not requiring a full time support engineer.

Remote Support

If you’re unable to employ either of the above or simply don’t require the assistance regularly enough, remote IT support makes perfect sense. Remote IT support teams are able to provide support when you need it either over the phone, via email, via live chat or via remote desktop. Most software problems encountered can be resolved in this way and it’s the way support is going as far as many businesses are concerned.

Above all; the best type of IT specialist for you all depends on your individual needs, however it’s something you need to spend time thinking carefully on prior to making a decision and employing the services.

We brought you this guest post courtesy of Nexus, IT support specialists who offer a quick IT support service for hundreds of businesses across the UK.

Hardware

Hardware is the main physical components of your computer or laptop and does not include any program or operating system – these are software.  There are basic pieces of hardware that a computer will not function without and additional hardware that will enhance the functionality of the machine.

The basic hardware needed to make a computer function and be usable is a monitor, keyboard and mouse, along with a processor, motherboard and hard drive, usually contained in a tower or box and occasionally within the screen of newer computers.  Although hardware may be purchased as a package, each piece is individually upgradable or replaceable, allowing the user to improve certain functions or the system, or to replace one faulty component only rather than the entire computer.  A monitor, keyboard or mouse is very easily upgraded without technical knowledge by purchasing an improved component which will plug straight into a USB socket on the computer.

Upgrading or replacing components within the computer may be undertaken without being a computer professional, but requires a little more technical knowledge and competence.  Many computer users will choose to pay an expert to carry out the upgrade to avoid damaging any other part of the machine.  The performance of the system for specific functions or multitasking can be improved by upgrading to a higher capacity hard drive, improved processor, larger RAM memory and a better graphics or sound card.  Hardware can even be aesthetically improved with a new case to house the computer components that matches the decor!

Monitors

Monitors come in all shapes and sizes to suit your technical and aesthetic requirements. From something resembling a large television set monitors for PCs have shrunk as technology has improved and monitors may now be no thicker than one centimetre. A monitor may also perform many functions and even act as the interface between computer and user.

The standard technology for modern computer monitors is TFT or thin film transistor which has millions of tiny pixels which require little energy to control them, allowing the picture to build very quickly. Prior to TFT technology CRT or cathode ray tube monitors were much more power hungry, much slower to react and display a picture and liable to burn out after a period of use. TFT monitors are more aesthetically-pleasing, take up less space, last longer and are less prone to fault. Due to the flat screen the image is truer with less distortion.

More recent advances in monitor technology see the monitor used as the main or only interface to control the computer. This technology can also be seen in touch screen mobile phones. A touch screen computer monitor has two films at the front of the screen which detect the touch of a stylus or human finger eliminating the need for a mouse control and allowing more creative and instinctive interactions with the computer. Touch screen technology is used in the latest portable computing device which features no keyboard, mouse or pad controller and is totally controlled by the user’s touch.

Data Storage

Making backups of vital data stored on your computer is very important, particularly if the loss of that data could cause problems for you. There are so many ways to easily make copies and backups these days that there is little excuse, aside from laziness, for not making backups of these files! You could burn them to a DVD or a CD, store them on a high capacity memory card, or even upload them onto a website such as Rapidshare.

If you need to make a backup of a fairly large file then DVD duplication is the way forward. DVDs can store almost 5gb of data, so if you want to take a back up of videos or images then this is the ideal way to do it! Most new computers come equipped with a DVD writer, so DVD duplication at home couldn’t be easier. Many people who use a digital camera to take photos will often burn copies of their pictures to a DVD for storage, particularly if the photos are especially sentimental, as loosing the files stored on the hard drive of a computer could be quite traumatic.

Re-writable DVDs are also excellent for people who are planning on sharing and transferring data as they can be wiped as reused as often as you like. However, USB memory sticks offer the same function and they are much more convenient. They also often have a much higher capacity than DVDs.

PC Equipment

There’s plenty of equipment that you can use to get the most out of your PC. Of course, some peripherals will be most essential than others, and your PC will still have a massive range of functionality even if you’re just using the keyboard, monitor and mouse.

The fact that most modern LCD TVs also double up nicely as PC monitors is leading many people to make use of increasingly large monitors. Also many people are also moving their PCs into their living rooms so they can view programs or films they’ve downloaded on a large screen, or even play games. Large screen TVs are cheaper than ever now and you can easily pick up an LG 42 LCD TV for a bargain prices from your local electronics shop. However, if you looking online you’ll find that many internet retailers are able to offer you an even better price on LG 42 LCD TVs than any high street shops, so if you’re after a bargain price new TV then get online!

There are plenty of other pieces of equipment you can buy to use with your PC. For example, a printer is an extremely useful item if you want to print off documents or images. Printers capable of producing high quality photographic prints can be bought relatively cheaply, as well as printers with integrated scanners, so you can scan images and documents to use on your computer.

Computer Training

Many people who are not comfortable with using a computer, particularly people of the older generation may want to consider enrolling in a computer training course. There are plenty of computer training courses available to help people of all abilities and ages get to grips with using a computer, so whether you’ve had plenty of experience in using a computer in the past, or you’re entirely new to them you should have no difficulty in locating a course being run in your local area that is suitable for you.

However, many people may find that they simply do not have the time to enrol on one of these courses. Thankfully, there are plenty of computer training courses available online. Many of these online computer training schemes will involve information and assignments being emailed to you. The cost of these online computer training courses varies significantly depending upon the content and complexity of the course.

Many of the computer training courses currently available could turn out to be extremely useful for you, particularly if you complete them successfully. Some people have found that they have been able to pursue a career in IT, or further their existing career after completing a computer training course. If you’d like to take steps to advance your existing career, or perhaps forge a new one then you’ll find that computer training courses may be able to help you significantly, particularly if you work or are planning to work in the IT industry.

Educational Software

Educational software is frequently used in many schools, colleges and other educational institutions for a variety of different purposes. There is a huge range of educational software on the market and since home computers first became widely available their potential as a useful educational tool has been exploited to its full potential. Most schools today will have many computer terminals in their possession, often housed in specific computer labs. These machines will often be equipped with a wide range of educational software useful for various different topics. The type of educational software found on most school computers ranges from very simple programs aimed at teaching children new to computers how to use their basic functions to much more elaborate and advanced software for older and more experienced pupils.

Educational software is also widely used in other academic institutions, for example, many universities and other places of higher education will often encourage their students to make effective use of a variety of different educational software programs.  The use of this software is sometimes essentially to the successful competition of a course.

Educational software is also commercially available for use at home. These software packages are ideal for parents who are looking to give their children a head start at school. A great deal of the educational software packages currently available can be ordered online, or in some cases even downloaded.  Some of the educational software available for home use is endorsed by examination boards and their content is relevant to the national curriculum.
